January 2018

Welcome to our Brewood CE (C) Middle School website. I hope you find this a useful insight into our school and that it provides all the information you may need.  We are currently working on a new school website which will be launched during the Spring Term 2018.DSC 2616-Optimized

Our mission is to educate our pupils within a safe, happy, caring Christian environment, where all are valued and encouraged to fulfil their potential in all aspects of school life.  Our school motto is 'Be the Best you can Be' and this exemplifies what we expect of pupils and adults alike at Brewood.

In the National Society's publication, 'Valuing All God's Children' it states that'The core purpose of any Church school is to maximise the learning potential of every pupil within the love of God.  Church of England Schools have at their heart a belief that all children are loved by God, are individually unique and that the school has a mission to help each pupil to fulfil their potential in all aspects of their personhood: physically, academically, socially, morally and spiritually'.  At Brewood CE Middle School, we want all pupils to engage in learning in a safe and welcoming ethos.

British Values are embedded in the life of our school.  They are actively promoted through spiritual, moral, social and cultural education and form a part of our distinctive Christian character.  Please see our full British Values statement below.

The governors and staff have high expectations of our pupils, regardless of their ability, and are committed to providing a high quality education for all. Our strong pastoral care system helps us to develop pupils as confident individuals who have self-discipline, respect for others and a caring attitude towards the community in which they live.  Pupils are given opportunities to develop leadership and life skills and are strongly encouraged to take part in extra curricular activities which develop their full potential.

Academic Year 2017-18

A number of changes were made at the start of the new academic year.  Mr Cartwright was appointed as our Leader of LIFE and is co-ordinating a number of PSHEE initiatives which are improving life skills of pupils at Brewood.

Over the summer our new outdoor gym was fitted near the Key Stage 3 playground.  This is now being used in  PE to support our physical fitness activities.  We also established a 'Ready to Learn Room' to support pupils with pastoral and emotional issues and this is already having a positive impact on designated pupils.

In November, one of our science laboratories was refurbished; this was funded partly by school and partly from a Local Authority grant.  Science is an important curriculum aspect at Brewood and the new facilities will help improve the quality of learning and outcomes for pupils.  The lab is being officially opened in January 2018.

We are also in the second year of our Primary Structure which focuses on pupils in Years 5 and 6 developing and applying basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics.  The initial outcomes of this are very encouraging and have led to improved SATs results at the end of Year 6, and we believe pupils are the better prepared now for Years 7 and 8.

At the end of October we had a Local Authority Review of school performance.  It was extremely positive and noted that 'Attainment of pupils in Year 6 improved in 2017 with significant increases across all areas' and 'The leadership team work well together and have a positive but determined approach to ensuring that pupils can perform well.'  Please see attachment for the full Local Authority report.

We are also looking forward to joining the St Chad's Multi-Academy Trust this term as it will open up a number of new opportunities for the school, staff and pupils and help us raise standards further.

Please collect a copy of our new school prospectus which is available in our reception area.  Alternatively, this will soon be available to download from our website. The weekly Headteacher Newsletters also contain school news items and pupil achievements.  If you would like further information about the school please do not hesitate to contact us or make an appointment to visit us.

Best wishes
